Nine comic books today, and most were actually pretty good. Sadly the Post Crisis Spectre series collection was not released for some reason. Ever since I had started reading the new Spectre series I have regretted not picking up the one that lead up to this one. Well, enough time for lamenting on changed release dates, time to talk about the comics that I bought this week:
-Thunderbolts #113. Not really a fan of the Thunderbolts, but when i read that this issue also includes Ollie Osnick, also known as the Steel Spider, I was psyched. Oddly enough the one character in this story that I actually have any interest in, the new Venom MAc Gargan, is not even in this issue. Instead we get shown that Robbie is still depressed about Stanford, Swordsman is way to attached to his sister, and Moonstone is a traitorous bitch. One thing that has always bugged me about this team is the inclusion of the bad guy Bullseye. I have never actually liked Bullseye, from his costume to his power/skill (that he never misses, blech), he has constantly disappointed me and seemed rather unnecessary to really anything.
-Ghost Rider #10. Continues the Legend of Sleepy Hallow, Illinois series. This issue is pretty good, though it lacks zombies, which the cover suggests that they are going crazy. Really, the only zombie action we see is at the end, with a pumpkin head being blown off in the beginning and talk all the way through the middle. I hope that next issue has more action, then again the ending of this issue definitely eludes to that.
-Teen Titans #45. The third part of the Titans East run, and the fight still rages on. Sides change and fights turn for the worse. Once more, the last page says it all. Man, Deathstroke is going to get his ass kicked. One of the cool things about this Titans East thing is that I get to see Inertia (pretty much a clone of Impulse/Kid Flash) in action again, then again all he has really done is talk and get possessed, plus he has already made some appearances in the new Flash comic.
-Nova #1. I was never really a fan of Nova, mostly cause he was some dorky teenager that pretty much became an intergalactic policeman (unlike say, an air craft pilot becoming an intergalactic policeman). I don't really know what to say about him now that he has all of the power of the Nova corps, as well as their main computer, at his disposal. Not much really happened in this issue as all Richard Rider (yes, that is his name) did was fly from distress signal to distress signal, fighting anything that may be causing destruction. One thing that I do like is his new look, way better then his old look. Then again it may just be that he is drawn better then he used to be, maybe the more realistic look. Any way, next issue he goes up against Iron Man.
-Tales of the Unexpected #7. Only one issue left in this remarkably twisted and exciting series. Cripus learns that he is in control and finally decides to do something about it. Man, gore galore in the first 3 pages of this issue, slightly reminiscent of Marvel Zombies, then again it could just be regular zombies since they are not super powered. Now on to Dr. 13, and what a nice thing of spoof of Charlie Brown they have (except in this one Lucy gets it). More speculation and weirdness as the Architects reveal themselves, well themselves wearing face masks of DC's more popular characters. Sadly, the 13 team losses one of there own as the ghost ship is hit. A nazi gorilla vampire does not make a great story, it only makes plot vomit.
-52: Week 49. As Chuck at the comic book shop so nicely said, "Check it, it is WIll Magnus's best impression of James Bond." Things are revealed about Chang Tzu, Magnus strikes back against his captors, and Black Adam is freed. Intergang better keep one eye over their shoulders as Black Adam is still on the war path, and is gunning for their demise. Then again, that pretty much happened last issue. Hm, JSA versus Infinity, INC.? This could get good. Sadly, only 3 weeks left in this phenomenal series, then begins Countdown, and I dare not miss that as I did the first issues of this.
-The Loners #1. Spinning out of the Runaways, the Loners (formerly known as Excelsior) get their own series. What is odd is that the Loners are actually a group that tries to turn teenage super heroes away from such things as crime fighting, which would not make for a good comic in my opinion. I am glad that I am wrong about them, and I am happy to see Ricochet back in action. Last I saw of him he was with the Slingers. Well costumed crime fighting dies hard as three of the of the group make it their mission to take down a drug ring that gives its users temporary super powers.
-The New Avengers #29. Mighty Avengers vs New Avengers, the cover says it all. Man, this has got to be the let down ever as Dr. Strange easily beats all of the Mighty Avengers with just a few words. So, Iron Man is haunted by Captain America's death eh? I really like the illusion spell that Strange put up, "Another neighborhood Starbucks coming soon." Wow, they really dug deep into the obscure barrel to pull out Brother Voodoo. The next issue should be good as the identity of Ronin is finally divulged, and I still can not guess who it is.
-Punisher War Journal #6. I am not that much a fan of the Punisher (to grim and gritty for my taste), but when I heard that he would be donning a new outfit, a very familiar looking outfit, I could not resist. S.H.I.E.L.D. is still after Frank Castle, but in his usual luck he manages to get away. What I do not get is why he is being chased by S.H.I.E.L.D. as he is a rather low rung character compared to the other Registration dodgers, like Spider-man or Luke Cage. Hm, the Hate Monger seems to be wearing a costume that is familiar as well.
More comic stuff:
-I am still rather excited for World War Hulk, and I can not wait until next month
-The new Dr. Fate series starts next week
-The World War 3 series also starts next week, though I am a little confused on how it is going to be distributed
-I can not wait until the Ultimates 2 is wrapped up next month. I wonder what they will do with it next.
